This summer, give your child the clarity to change how they think about English.

image.png

A four-evening online summer experience for ambitious students who know they are capable of more in English than their current grades suggest.

When effort isn't enough

image.png

Your child has always been capable. They work hard, they're full of ideas, and in subjects like maths or science they seem to know exactly what's expected of them.

But English is different.

They revise, they learn quotations, they work hard, yet their feedback always seems to come back to the same thing:

"Go into more detail."

"Analyse more deeply."

"Develop your ideas."

The problem is that nobody ever explains what those comments actually mean.  If your child knew how to do these things, they would be doing them already!

Instead, they are left feeling confused. They know they have ideas; they just don't know how to turn those ideas into the kind of writing that examiners reward.

Gradually, they begin to lose confidence.  A subject they once enjoyed starts to feel frustrating, and they begin to wonder whether they're simply "not an English person", that  they should just accept that English will be a disappointment on the results paper.

If this is your child, then you need to know this:

Their problem isn't a lack of effort or ability.

It's a lack of clarity.

This isn't a revision course.

image.png

Your child doesn't need more of the same, â€‹they need to learn how top-grade students think.

Because top-grade answers don't come from writing more.

They come from thinking differently.

For four evenings this August, I'll be working with a small group of ambitious students.

A clear understanding of what teachers and examiners are really looking for

so comments like "go into more detail" and "analyse more deeply" finally make sense.

The confidence that comes from knowing what top-grade responses do - so they can begin to do these things and improve their grades.

A much clearer picture of their own strengths - because confidence grows when students understand what they're already doing well, not just where they've gone wrong.

Personalised next steps for both reading analysis and writing, so they know exactly what to focus on to continue improving long after the course has finished.

A renewed enjoyment of English, built through big ideas, lively discussion and genuine curiosity rather than memorising quotations.

The clarity to begin September knowing how to take the next steps to achieve the results they're capable of.

By the end of the week, they will leave with:

What does this look like?  Here is what one parent recently said:

"I can already see how much my teen is getting from the sessions. We talk about what they're covering afterwards and they always look forward to going – which says a lot. We've already seen a great improvement in their recent assignment."

What will my child actually do?

image.png
image.png

Read differently.

We'll explore one brilliant short story and discover where top-grade ideas actually come from and how to discover these.

image.png

Argue differently.

Students will debate, challenge one another and build sophisticated viewpoints around one fascinating question:
Just because we can, does that mean we should?

image.png

Think differently.

Through discussion and questioning, students will learn to look beneath the surface and explore ideas in far greater depth than they have ever done before.

image.png

Write differently.

Finally, they'll bring everything together to produce analytical and viewpoint writing that reflects a completely new way of thinking

It is quite possible that English will never be the same again.

Small group means individual attention.

image.png

In each lesson, every student will receive motivating feedback and guidance so they know exactly what to do to push beyond current levels of achievement and to build the confidence to go even further in September.

Students will also have the opportunity to complete and submit a choice of either the essay or viewpoint writing they worked on in the session for detailed, video feedback to help accelerate their September progress.

Because knowing what to improve and how to do it is exactly how students move up through the grades.

A parent recently explained what this newfound clarity felt like for her child:

"My daughter said she actually feels like she is actually learning something!"

Is the Summer Tune-up right for your child?

image.png

This programme is ideal for students who...

- Are entering Year 10 or Year 11 this September.

- Are already working at Grade 5 or above in English.

- Know they are capable of more, but aren't yet producing the grades they want

- Enjoy discussing ideas and are willing to contribute to small-group discussion

- Want to begin the school year with greater clarity and a genuine head start.

This is not the right fit if...

  • Your child is currently struggling to secure a pass grade in  English and needs support with the basics.

  • They are looking to revise literature content - like quotations.

  • They aren't prepared to speak in a small group setting or have their camera on.

The Summer Tune-Up Programme has been designed for curious, capable students who are ready to stretch themselves.

If your child has ever come home wondering what their teacher really meant by "go into more detail", this programme will finally give them the answers they've been looking for.

And make them think about English in a whole new way.
